The Windows 8 Operating System is faster than Windows 7, however, when you use it, it doesn't
seem like much of an improvement. In Windows 8, Microsoft changed almost the entire user
interface in replacement of a more rectangular experience. Not only this, but the desktop in
Windows 8 is seen more like an application as it goes into the new "Start screen" when you
start it up.
The purpose for these somewhat peculiar "improvements" to the experience is because they did
actually improve people's experiences in Windows 8, but the catch is that this came at the cost
of the actual desktop experience. The reason why it still actually improved people's experiences
was because Windows 8 was designed for mobile tablet users, but not for desktops.
This was a risky move for Microsoft to make, considering that not many people used tablets or
touch-screen computers with Windows at that time. This is the reason why not many people
(including me) particularly liked using Windows 8. As of now, I wouldn't recommend Windows 8
to anybody because
Windows 10 already exists, but Microsoft made
another Operating System (
Windows 8.1) to compensate for some
of the things that desktop and laptop users lost, but it wasn't that much better, still
retaining the start screen (etc...) that desktop users also hated.
Windows 8.1
also was only really built for desktop users who didn't like Windows 8, but still did work with
tablet experiences, but that's a story for another time.
